Our History....

Mrs. Katie Cabell Currie (later Mrs. J.C. Muse) organized the United Daughters of the Confederacy® Dallas Chapter 6 in 1894. The chapter received its charter April 10, 1895. The General Division was formed at Nashville, Tennessee, on September 10, 1894. The Dallas chapter was functioning, as were many other such groups throughout the South, before Mrs. Caroline Meriwether Goodlett, who was the first President General, called them together at Nashville. Mrs. H.L. Rains of Georgia was First Vice President, and Mrs. Muse was Second Vice President. Numbers were drawn and Mrs. Muse drew the number “6” on the General Roll.

Mrs. Muse organized the Texas Division in 1896 as our first Texas Division President, later becoming President General. Katie Cabell Currie Muse was President of Dallas Chapter 6 for 33 years, serving faithfully the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Over the years, Dallas Chapter 6, being the oldest UDC chapter in Texas and west of the Mississippi, has been involved in many worthwhile projects to honor and preserve our Southern Heritage and the memories and deeds of our gallant Southern ancestors.
